Electrical installation for a purpose-built dance studio and theatre complex
Jasmin Vardimon Company’s new home is the last of Ashford Borough Council’s ‘Big 8’ projects – a series of major schemes including Elwick Place that the council hopes will transform and regenerate the town.
This project was a venture involving various partners including Kent County Council, to provide a cultural space and a creative hub for the internationally renowned dance company and the local community.
In order to deliver the facility, capital investment has been secured from Arts Council England, the Cultural Recovery Fund’s Capital Kickstart Fund, Ashford Borough Council (ABC) from the Business Rates Retention Pilot (a fund which aims to support housing and commercial growth in the borough) and the South East Local Enterprise Partnership’s Getting Building Fund.
The 13,530sq ft state-of-the-art facility provides a 19m x 22mm studio space with a 13-metre ceiling height, a fully sprung dance floor, a flexible performance theatre, as well as a café and meeting rooms offering space for the local community.
ECO are responsible for all the containment and wiring, including all lighting and power required for the rehearsal and performance areas.
The open, industrial-style design of the whole building features exposed ceilings throughout, with all services on display, demonstrating immaculate and bespoke cabling and containment.
Co-ordinating and communicating with other contractors was essential to this project’s success. ECO worked closely with Stage Electrics, the company appointed by the client, to incorporate the conduit rods and cable trays for their equipment, and with the mechanical contractors to accommodate specialist components.
