The Grade I Listed ‘Maison Dieu’ (Dover Town Hall) is undergoing a £10.5m conservation effort, contributing to the creation of a heritage quarter in Dover town centre. Once complete, towards the end of 2024, Maison Dieu will be open to the public for the first time in its 800-year history.
This significant project involves sensitive restoration of Victorian neo-Gothic architectural features, focused on retaining as much of the original elements as possible.
Bringing redundant space back into commercial use, the redevelopment will include fitting out the Mayor’s Parlour as a holiday let, and creating a caféria in the space once occupied by Victorian gaol cells! A new street-level visitor entrance will be introduced, along with improved access throughout the building.
