Project Information
ECO Mechanical were appointed for a singular boiler room refurbishment at the Rowan’s AP Academy.
This included the full replacement of the old system and re-insulating the steel pipework with 25mm of mineral wool. The gas fired water system, having only recently been replaced, remained in place so our mechanical team ensured all connections were securely linked as to not cause any issues during the works.

Delivery
Two boilers fed the three zones of the school, which required isolating from the boiler before any work commenced. The fusible links on the boilers that act as part of the safety circuit were upgraded as part of the control strategy.
Each zone has a designated pump with existing twin-headed pumps, made up of CT and VT circuits, with a fitted temperature sensor. The pumps themselves were in good working order so were reused during this refurbishment, however the pipework needed full replacement.
The expansion vessel and pressurisation unit was changed, both of which are two essential safety components that the school is required to have, as well as manual override buttons that cut the gas supply through solenoid valves. During this, ECO Mechanical checked the fire alarm links to the main panel to ensure all safety precautions were in suitable working order.
The client also asked for a chemical flush through and clean up of the system following installation and ready for use come the new academic year. Due to the school being in use during term time, this project took place over the summer holidays without the concern of time restrictions.
